A partnership with the Central Finland Regional Council and the Promoter project gave me the opportunity to go on a study trip to North Macedonia with the project. I traveled to the city of Kocani with Pekka Matilainen and Valtteri Paakki, employees of the Central Finland Regional Council and the Promoter project. We spent two days there at the project’s final workshop. We also had the opportunity to learn about the recycling activities of the region’s wastewater treatment plant and the operations of the local geothermal power plant. In addition, the municipality of Kocani presented good practices in smart energy metering, public lighting, and public transport.
It was interesting to hear about the outputs and results of the project partners from different countries at the workshop. Peer learning and sharing good practices were the best parts of the trip. I also had the opportunity to compare the Promoter project with the Interreg project Energy Circle, which we started this year. During the four days we spent together, I got to know the Promoter project partners, especially Pekka and Valtteri from the Regional Council of Central Finland. The city of Kocani treated us very hospitably. The study trip was interesting and thought-provoking. A special thank you to everyone who made this possible!
